Modders Found the One Way to Fix Starfield, and It’s Turning It Into a Massive Star Wars RPG

Starfield just got a whole lot better thanks to an enormous modding project called Star Wars: Genesis. From what we’ve seen, modders are effectively transforming Bethesda Game Studios’ title into a full-fledged Star Wars experience in a galaxy far, far away.

When Starfield launched back in 2023, there were a lot of expectations. Bethesda promised an ambitious space RPG, and after the success of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, it was easy to believe that. But as of early 2026, the general consensus has been anything but positive.

Star Wars: Genesis Turns Starfield Into a Galaxy Far, Far Away

The Star Wars: Genesis mod is great, not just in its size, but also in what it aims to do. As of January 2026, the mod collection weighs in at well over 100GB, with some specific player setups even pushing closer to 250GB once optional additions are included.

From what we’ve seen, the mod collection includes entire planets, cities, factions, and even dialogue options to fit Star Wars lore. On top of that, the weapons have been replaced with blasters, the newly added armor matches iconic designs from the franchise, and even the soundtrack and lighting have been changed.

And crazily enough, the quality of it looks so good that we reckon it feels like an entirely new RPG, rather than a modded title. What’s more surprising is how accessible it is. Using Wabbajack and the official modlist, you can install the entire experience in just a few clicks.

According to the official page, a lot of the work has been done by a single creator over nearly two years, with contributions from other modders carefully stitched together into one cohesive package. If you’re craving some Star Wars action, then this looks quite good. But not for Bethesda.

One of the biggest issues we’ve had with Starfield is exploration. The generated planets, repeated points of interest, and frequent loading screens made the world feel hollow. Which is weird when the game followed the giant success of Skyrim, which did the open world much better.

And while Bethesda is reportedly addressing some of these issues in upcoming updates, the core design limits how much can realistically be fixed without rebuilding the game from the ground up. The new mod experience avoids that problem entirely.

Instead of trying to make every planet endlessly explorable, the mod focuses on atmosphere, identity, and an experience that feels real. The exploration revolves around the locations, factions, and the story, which makes the galaxy feel more intentional and alive.

Ultimately, it’s less about infinite possibilities and more about meaningful places to visit and stories worth engaging with. In many ways, the new mod is a reminder of a truth about Bethesda games that we’ve known for a long time.

The biggest additions to the studio’s games often come from the community. And while Bethesda may not have a problem with that, it does have a negative effect. What do you think of this new mod? Let us know in the comments!
