It's that time of the year again – snow is falling (in some places), stores are busier than ever, decorations overtake lawns, and the temperatures beg you to stay inside and enjoy some video games. Like every year, Steam is answering the call with its annual Steam Winter Sale and the 2025 edition promises discounts on some of the year's biggest games when it goes live this Thursday, on December 18, at 10 a.m. PT. Though we don't know exact pricing discounts just yet, if you're familiar with this yearly sale, you know the discounts can be quite steep. Steam released a trailer highlighting some of the games that will be on sale. PSN Accounts Becoming Optional for PS5 PC Game Ports
Sony announced that a PlayStation Network (PSN) account will no longer be a mandatory requirement when playing certain PS5 games on PC platforms. The change is set to go into effect on January 30, 2025, alongside the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PC.
The announcement came via a post on the Playstation blog that detailed how the change will affect the PC ports of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and God of War Ragnarok , as well as the upcoming ports of Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II Remastered . Instead of requiring an account to play the game, players will instead be incentivized to sign in to an account by in-game rewards. These include two suits for Spider-Man 2 , a resource bundle and early unlock for an armor set in God of War Ragnarok , an outfit for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered , and a jacket skin and unlock points for The Last of Us Part II Remastered .
Sony previously required PSN accounts for games like Helldivers 2 , even when playing the PS5 game on a PC, which resulted in a significant backlash for the company.
Starting from January 30, 2025, a PSN account will no longer be a mandatory requirement for playing certain PS5 games on PC. Spider-Man 2 is immediately available for PS5 and will release for PC on January 30, 2025.
